Eddie McFadden sat down with struggling Lightweight, Thorstein Matsburg. They discussed his troubles in the Lightweight Division, his injury and his possible appearance in the upcoming 'Kickboxer's Paradise'.
EM: I'm here with "The Viking" Thostein Matsburg. Thorstein, great to be able to sit down with you.
TM: Thank you, Eddie.
EM: Since joining the ECL, you are 0-3. That's quite an obstacle in today's MMA.
TM: Definitely not what I expected since my transition over from Kickboxing.
EM: So you were a kickboxer before. I was not able to find a professional record with you.
TM: I never went pro. I had about 20 to 30 fights as an amateur. I was planning on going pro but I had a falling out with my coaches. I took some time off and then discovered MMA.
EM: So why did you choose the ECL?
TM: I was in discussion with a few different organizations and the ECL looked like a great place to get my feet wet.
EM: So what have you been doing to improve your overall MMA game?
TM: I've been polishing up my stand-up. Being in the same gym as Kain Mu'Nail is something that I wanted to take advantage of. He's a very talented striker. I've also been working with Acelino Alves. His jiu-jitsu is phenomenal. I haven't really done too much improvement lately though because of my neck injury.
EM: Terrance Reaume really did a number on you, didn't he?
TM: Yeah. A lot of it was my fault. I didn't tap but I believe I should have. Actually, I know I should have. I wouldn't have had to go through all this rehab. Terrance is a great fighter with a bright future. He has a mouth, though, but he's been able to back it up. Kind of like a Floyd Mayweather.
EM: You and Terrance had quite the war of words after the last ECL event. Are you still butting heads with him?
TM: No. After the post-fight press conference, I haven't said a thing to him. I have just been working on getting healthier and coming back. I don't know about Terrance. I haven't heard anything from him really. I'm sure he's over it too. We may meet again though. Hopefully I'll improve in the right areas before that bout comes around again. He's a tough guy and a wizard on the ground.
EM: Kickboxer's Paradise is coming up. I've heard your name thrown around.
TM: I heard my name too. I was at home sipping my coffee in the morning and I got a text from Xavier Langdon. He said he entered and people were talking about me making an appearance. I just got cleared by my doctor yesterday and got a hold of Jayceon Taylor. I'm in providing I pass the medical provided by the ECL.
EM: Great News!
TM: I agree. Maybe a good showing here will help me get back on my feet in the fight game.
EM: Let's hope so. It was great talking with you, Thorstein. Any last words for ECL fight fans?
TM: Yeah. Look out for "The Viking" in the future. I'm looking to turn some heads in the Lightweight Division.
